Today I welcome another new writer with lovely Crooked Cat who publish me too. Coming in on the magic carpet is Margaret K Johnson… Cameron! Glasses please!
Welcome, Margaret… Now, I know you like a nice glass of chilled white wine and a bowl of olives so while Cam puts on his pinny and goes to get those, you sit here and tell me about your work. Lily will keep you company but if you don’t like dogs just ask her to go away. She’s very obliging like that.
I love dogs, so Lily’s fine. Not sure what she’ll make of the scent of my Billy though. He’s a whiffy pooch!
It’s not, no. I’ve had lots of fiction for people learning to speak English published by Cambridge University Press and Cengage Learning. One of these – Kilimanjaro has just been short-listed for an award, so here’s hoping! I’ve also self-published women’s fiction – The Goddess Workshop and The Dare Club – and have a historical romance – A Nightingale in Winter – coming out with Omnific Publishing in July.
Oh Wow! I taught EFL for 17 years! What a coincidence. Impressive, so -how long have you been writing?
I started writing when I left art college ages ago. It was meant to be a way to support my painting, but I ended up with two passions that don’t pay very well and did every kind of other job you can imagine to support myself until the language readers began to earn me a bit of money. I also teach creative writing, which I really enjoy.
What is in the pipeline? More of the same genre or are you going to branch out?
I love writing women’s fiction. My books aren’t just romances, they’re about women gaining in confidence and getting empowered, and these are themes that will continue to be important to me. I like to try to make readers laugh and cry, and I once went to the lengths of training in and performing stand-up comedy to make my novel The Dare Club authentic.
That’s something I’ve dabbled in. Fun and scary at the same time. Now a bit about you. Tell us where you live and what the household is like. Lily wants to know if you have pets.
I live in Norwich with my partner and our bouncy son and dog. They have very similar personalities and are equally difficult to ignore. Not that we want to ignore either of them of course. We also have a very small, very elderly cat, Mia who beats Billy up occasionally, when she’s not asleep.
What are your dreams/aspirations?
I just want to continue writing and teaching and to earn enough from these activities not to ever have to have a ‘proper’ job again. I think by now I’m officially unemployable! Self-employment is just too much fun. Oh, and I’d love to spend time in New Zealand and Australia, writing, painting and taking it all in. One day!
Oh yes, one-day is a fine time! Finally let us have all your details, book outlets, contact, web page etc.

Thanks so much for coming, it’s been a real pleasure. Just step onto the magic carpet, don’t worry it knows the way. Just say “Go home” when you are safely off. Byeeeee!
