Dobby corrected

Some of you may remember me writing about our adoption by a certain wee urchin in the village in a previous post

Well young’un is growing up into a tempestuous teenager but still treats us as a family extension when he needs sometthing. He blotted his copybook today and I had to become stern Auntie Elise rather than indulgent ole Nanny Ab.

During Badger’s absence he turned up requiring some enginering work done NOW. Hearing that Badger wasn’t here he said “Where is he then?” which I allowed to go and just shook my head, reapeating “not here”.  I told him to come back today, which of course he did. I came in on the conversation half way through to raised voices in the bike garage.

Badger was repeatedly saying NO and young’un was arguing.

monkey bikeIt turned out that he wanted work done that Badger knew he was quite capable of doing himself. This is a great trick – as is pretending not to understand Badger’s French when it suits him. Having learned that it was a tiny “monkey bike” he wanted fixing to ride himself, we both said NO. He shouted that we aren’t his parents at which point I tapped him gently on the cheek and said “Well if you stop behaving  as if we ARE your family and coming to us with all your problems, then perhaps we won’t feel inclined to save your life when you have such idiotic ideas. We aren’t going to help you break the law and we aren’t going to break the law for you.”

His disbelieving snort earned him a pulled ear’ole and a reminder that the law “non-assistance to persons in danger” can be used any way the police want to and would be used against Badger for aiding a moronic minor to do something illegal and possibly fatal.gendarme moto

As I escorted him off the premises still holding his earlobe and pushing his backside I told him to come back when he’d decided what, exactly, we were to him, learned some manners and when it was convenient for Badger to help, which is itsn’t now as we’re leaving tomorrow. That had been explained slowly and patiently several times.

This mini bike is supplementary to a quadbike he originally wanted help with – that remains to be considered if he asks nicely.

That’s the thing about Nanny Ab – pleasant if handled with care and respect!
